EA “pretty motivated” to bring Apex Legends to TV or film

In a recent conversation with Variety, Laura Miele, the president of EA Entertainment, expressed the company’s enthusiasm for expanding its successful franchise, Apex Legends, into the realms of film and television. Miele emphasized that there is a wealth of untapped narrative potential within the game, stating that players often lack access to the rich backstories and histories of the characters and legends that populate the game world. She remarked, “There’s just rich worlds and rich history with these characters that can come to life through linear media and partnerships.”

Exploring New Avenues

Electronic Arts is already making strides in this direction, collaborating with Amazon’s MGM Studios and Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap production company to develop a film based on its beloved The Sims franchise. Miele highlighted the importance of cross-promotion between the film and the game, noting that the current technological landscape allows for innovative co-creation of content. “Where we sit today, from a technology perspective, innovation perspective, we are in a moment where we can actually co-create content and be a multiplier for each other,” she explained.

Miele further elaborated on the exciting possibilities that lie ahead, envisioning a future where fans can engage with content in both linear and interactive formats simultaneously. “It’s going to be so full circle and so fulfilling to bring content in a linear way and an interactive way, simultaneously, and even have it adapt to fans and how things are going,” she said. With several ideas in the pipeline for marketing the movie and exploring various expressions of the franchise, Miele believes that the opportunity for growth and innovation is exceptionally promising.
