Google Introduces PC Connect for Android XR
Google has unveiled a new feature called PC Connect for Android XR, allowing users to stream Windows PC games and apps directly to Samsung’s Galaxy XR headset. This feature, currently in beta stage, can be easily accessed by launching a native app from Google Play.
This update aims to bridge the gap between desktops and XR environments, enabling users to stream content over Wi-Fi at full resolution and high frame rates. Interestingly, PC Connect utilizes the same low-latency technology from Google’s now-defunct Stadia project.
With PC Connect, users can display PC desktops or windows alongside Android XR apps, supporting input from keyboards, mice, or controllers paired to either device. A recent demo showcased the ability to edit images on a laptop while simultaneously watching YouTube in XR, as well as playing games like Stray with a PS5 controller.
Previously limited to Steam VR or Galaxy Book links, PC Connect now extends to general Windows PCs, with Mac support expected to arrive in 2026. This development opens up a world of possibilities for gamers, allowing them to access vast PC libraries and run them seamlessly in XR spaces.
Furthermore, PC Connect enhances productivity by integrating professional tools like image editors with XR multitasking, all optimized for motion via the new Travel Mode feature. Co-developed with Samsung and Qualcomm, Google’s Android XR platform has been designed to support PC streaming, with upcoming AI-driven System Autospatialization set to convert 2D PC streams into real-time 3D for a more immersive experience.
Overall, this update solidifies Android XR as a versatile platform that competes with tethered VR systems by simplifying PC gaming and ensuring future compatibility. Early beta access is now available, promising to revolutionize mobile XR entertainment.
