Hytale’s Revival: A New Chapter Unfolds
Cheers resonated throughout the online gaming community as the fate of Hytale shifted dramatically from cancellation to revival. Originally conceived in 2015, Hytale quickly captured the imagination of gamers worldwide. Following significant investment from Riot Games, the game faced an unexpected setback when it was canceled earlier this year.
However, the narrative took a hopeful turn when Simon Collins-Laflamme, co-founder of Hypixel, announced his acquisition of Hytale from Riot Games. He described this moment as “a new and exciting chapter” for everyone involved in the project.
In a heartfelt message, Collins-Laflamme expressed gratitude towards Riot for their collaboration, emphasizing their shared commitment to the players. “They wanted what’s best for players, and that’s for us to eventually play the game,” he stated. He also shared his personal connection to Hytale, noting, “This game has always been close to my heart, and I’m excited to bring it back home.”
Collins-Laflamme candidly acknowledged the game’s current state, stating, “Real talk: Hytale isn’t some polished AAA release waiting in the wings. It’s messy. It’s janky. And there’s a lot of work to be done.” His plan is straightforward: to expedite the game’s release, allowing players to engage with it sooner rather than later. “It won’t be perfect on day one. My hope is that together, we’ll shape it into something truly special,” he added.
On the official Hytale website, he reiterated his appreciation for Riot’s support and outlined a commitment to returning to the game’s original vision. “We are fully independent and personally committed to funding Hytale for the next 10 years,” he affirmed, hinting that an early access date would be announced shortly.
Riot Games also released a statement regarding the sale, noting, “After evaluating multiple offers, we’ve reached an agreement to return Hytale to @simon_hypixel, giving this community its best shot at experiencing a revised version of the game. Wishing the team the best of luck for what’s ahead.”
The passion of the Hytale community was palpable when news of the game’s cancellation first emerged. Fans rallied together to create a striking art piece emblazoned with “#Save Hytale,” which was displayed above the Riot Games office in Santa Monica, symbolizing their unwavering support for the beloved sandbox game.
