Milestone Achievements in Indie Game Development

In a significant development for the gaming industry, Microsoft’s indie support initiative, ID@Xbox, has surpassed a remarkable milestone, distributing over billion to independent developers since its launch in 2013. This achievement was highlighted by Guy Richards, the program’s director, in a recent announcement on Xbox Wire.

Richards shared that the past year alone has seen the release of more than 1,000 titles through the ID@Xbox program. This impressive output underscores the program’s commitment to fostering creativity and innovation within the indie game development community. In an interview with GameRant, Richards elaborated on the program’s extensive reach, noting collaborations with over 5,000 developers worldwide and involvement with approximately 6,000 titles.

“Since ID@Xbox was launched in 2013, more than billion have been paid to independent developers from all over the world,” Richards stated. He emphasized the program’s mission: “We’re also proud to offer developers the ability to use our platform to maximize the opportunity to reach an audience across multiple screens.”

Richards further explained how the ID@Xbox initiative has evolved over the years, adapting to new technologies and player preferences. “Our mission with ID@Xbox has always been to empower teams to achieve more with Xbox. We’re focused on helping independent teams enable Xbox Play Anywhere to reach more players – allowing seamless play across console, PC, and cloud.”

This ongoing support not only highlights Microsoft’s dedication to indie developers but also reflects a broader trend in the gaming industry towards inclusivity and accessibility, ensuring that diverse voices and innovative ideas continue to thrive in the gaming landscape.
