Wombo Games Emerges with Promising New Title
Janos Flösser, the former managing director of the acclaimed game developer IO Interactive, has officially unveiled his latest venture, Wombo Games. This new studio is currently hard at work on an innovative strategy roguelike game titled Raiders of Blackveil, which is anticipated to enter Early Access this summer.
Founded in 2023, Wombo Games marks a new chapter for Flösser, who boasts nearly a decade of experience at IO Interactive from 1998 to 2008. Following his tenure there, he took on the role of chief creative officer at Square Enix, where he remained until 2016. His career continued to flourish as he transitioned to Crey Games as CEO and later became a partner, and subsequently a senior partner, at Promentum Capital.
In a recent conversation with GamesBeat, Flösser shared insights into the studio’s philosophy and development journey. “We wanted to keep [the studio] small and nimble and see how far we could push it,” he explained. “We managed to get funding and started in July 2023, so we’re almost two years old. Very early on, we had a playable version, almost within the first month-and-a-half, and [investors] started to play it. They fell in love with the concept, and they’ve been playing it ever since.”
Flösser noted that this experience has been particularly unique, as he observed investors becoming genuinely enthusiastic about both the team and the game concept. “So we managed to raise funds three times during the last two years,” he added. “For now, it’s pretty much focused on doing the right game for the right audience.”
