Delta Emulator Adds Online Multiplayer for Nintendo DS Games

Emulators on iOS have been playing catch-up to their Android counterparts, but Delta Emulator is making significant progress. The app, which supports various Nintendo consoles, has introduced a new feature that brings it closer to its Android counterparts.

Version 1.7 of Delta Emulator now allows users to play Nintendo DS games online through community WFC servers. This feature, based on the MelonDS core, simplifies the process of connecting to servers by offering pre-configured options like Wiimmfi, WiiLink WFC, or AltWFC. Users can also connect to additional servers by inputting DNS settings.

With this update, iOS users can now enjoy online multiplayer gameplay with titles like Mario Kart DS, Metroid Prime Hunters, and Pokemon Black/White, competing against other users on the same server, including Android and console players.

The feature was initially available to Patreon subscribers in beta, but it has now been rolled out to all users through the App Store and AltStore versions. In addition to online multiplayer, the update also includes performance improvements for the N64 core with the addition of OpenGL ES 3.0, although users can still switch back to OpenGL ES 2.0 if needed.

Developer Riley Testut has hinted at RetroAchievements in a future update, further enhancing the gaming experience for iOS users. The availability of emulators like Delta Emulator on the App Store has made iOS emulation more accessible, eliminating the need for jailbreaking to sideload emulators.

While iOS emulation continues to improve, limitations like the lack of JIT support and compatibility issues with certain platforms remain. Despite these challenges, the addition of online multiplayer for Nintendo DS games on Delta Emulator marks a significant milestone for iOS gaming enthusiasts.
