For many BioWare enthusiasts, the current landscape can feel disheartening. While Veilguard has garnered some appreciation, it appears that the studio is facing significant challenges. However, a glimmer of hope emerges as other developers step in to fill the void left by BioWare, crafting expansive, cinematic RPGs that echo the essence of beloved classics. Notable names like Larian and CD Projekt have been leading the charge, and now Owlcat Games is poised to make its mark with the upcoming title, Osiris Reborn, which draws inspiration from the iconic Mass Effect series.
Musical Prelude to Adventure
On November 7, Owlcat unveiled the main theme for Osiris Reborn, composed by the talented Paweł Perepelica, known for his work on Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous and Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader. While it can be challenging to generate enthusiasm over a game’s soundtrack before its release, the main theme for Osiris Reborn certainly captivates the imagination.
As the gaming community eagerly anticipates more details, the trajectory of CD Projekt and Larian serves as a reminder of how studios can rise to prominence through innovative and engaging RPGs. This moment could very well be Owlcat’s opportunity to shine, akin to the breakthroughs seen with The Witcher 2 or Divinity: Original Sin 2, where they exceeded expectations in terms of craftsmanship and production quality.
Although the release date for Osiris Reborn remains under wraps, fans can already wishlist the game on Steam. Additionally, Owlcat is offering various “founder pack” preorder options directly on its website, allowing dedicated supporters to engage with the project early on.
Owlcat is not resting on its laurels; the studio is actively expanding its portfolio. Its newly established publishing arm is set to release Rue Valley, a title reminiscent of Disco Elysium, later this month. Meanwhile, the team continues to provide support for Rogue Trader while simultaneously developing another entry in the Warhammer 40K universe, Dark Heresy.
