A recent survey conducted by Logitech G, in collaboration with the independent research firm Antenna Insights, has unveiled some intriguing insights into the dynamics of romantic relationships. The study reveals that couples who engage in video gaming together at least once a week report a remarkable 47.3% increase in relationship satisfaction, compared to a mere 24.0% for those who seldom or never play together. This finding positions gaming as a compelling avenue for enhancing romantic connections, particularly as Valentine’s Day approaches.
The survey, which included 1,500 participants aged 18 to 45, found that nearly half of the respondents (44%) enjoy gaming with their partners either occasionally or regularly. In contrast, 22% play infrequently, while 34% do not participate in gaming activities at all. Couples who game together on a weekly basis spend nearly 17 hours of quality time together each week—approximately 3.8 hours more than those who engage in gaming only occasionally.
Play together, stay together
The survey highlighted several reasons why couples cherish gaming together. A significant 52% of respondents appreciate the opportunity to engage in fun activities as a team, while 47% find it an effective way to unwind and relieve stress. Additionally, 46% believe that gaming brings them closer together. Other notable benefits include 39% who see it as an excellent way to spend quality time at home, and 36% who feel it injects a playful element into their relationship.
“Logitech G’s latest research shows that for many couples, the secret to a stronger connection this Valentine’s Day is actually found at the console,” stated Daniel Hall, Senior Category Manager at Logitech G ANZ. “We’re finding that gaming isn’t just a solo hobby; it’s a powerful tool for quality time, communication, and teamwork in romantic relationships.”
Teamwork and communication
To further explore this phenomenon, Logitech G connected with gaming duo Elmza and Jags, known off-screen as Emma Corrigan and Jaeger Jags Vallejera. The couple frequently plays cooperative games such as Overcooked, Mario Party, and Animal Crossing. “Our teamwork and communication have definitely improved massively through playing games together,” Elmza shared. “The quality time together is another big one, so being able to just hang out together and also decompress and relax.”
Elmza emphasized that sharing a common hobby has significantly strengthened their bond. “The games that we love playing reflect what we love about each other and the relationship as well. It really reminds us how important playfulness, fun, and adventure are as part of our relationship.”
By transforming mundane conversations into engaging competition or collaboration, Logitech G’s findings highlight gaming as a valuable tool for fostering improved communication, teamwork, and playfulness in relationships. This study also coincides with the recent launch of Logitech G’s Astro A20 X Gaming Headset, which features PLAYSYNC technology, enabling players to seamlessly switch between consoles with a single button press.
