Manic Steam game collector first to surpass 40,000 game titles in library — $640,000 digital collection took 15 years to build

In a remarkable display of dedication to digital gaming, a Steam user from China, known as SonixLegend, has achieved a milestone that many gamers can only dream of. As of Tuesday, SonixLegend proudly holds the title of the first individual to earn the coveted Steam ‘Game Collector’ badge by amassing an astonishing collection of 40,000 games. As reported by SteamDB, this impressive number has since climbed to 40,031, showcasing an insatiable appetite for new gaming experiences.

Building a Collection Over Time

This extraordinary feat did not occur overnight; SonixLegend has been curating their extensive library on Steam for over 15 years. This long-term commitment to collecting games highlights the evolving nature of gaming culture, where the act of collecting has become as significant as the gameplay itself. Interestingly, Valve, the company behind Steam, does not include what is often referred to as ‘shovelware’ in its count, ensuring that the badge reflects genuine gaming titles.

Despite the sheer volume of games in their collection, it seems that SonixLegend remains eager for more. The anticipation of the next Steam Sale likely fuels their quest for new titles, a sentiment shared by many in the gaming community.

SonixLegend is not alone in this pursuit of gaming excellence. Following closely behind is Ian Brandon Anderson, who has amassed 39,502 games, while another user, known as ikun, boasts a collection of 36,660 titles. The competition is fierce, with all members of the top ten leaderboard owning at least 33,000 games. To even crack the top 100, a user must possess a minimum of 19,000 games, underscoring the dedication of these collectors.

Reflecting on personal gaming collections, one might find their own library of 135 games to be substantial. However, in the grand scheme of this leaderboard, it serves as a reminder of the vastness of the gaming universe and the diverse experiences it offers across various platforms, including Epic and Ubisoft.
