Metal Gear Solid Delta’s multiplayer mode—the first properly new Metal Gear experience since 2018’s Survive—releases October 30

Konami, the storied Japanese game developer, appears to be navigating a promising resurgence, though it may be premature to declare a full comeback. Recent developments have certainly sparked optimism among fans and industry observers alike. This week, Silent Hill f garnered an impressive score of 90 in the PC Gamer review, a notable achievement that follows closely behind the release of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. This remake has been lauded for its stunning visuals and faithful homage to one of the most cherished entries in the Metal Gear franchise.

Exciting Announcements from Tokyo Game Show

As excitement builds, Konami seems intent on sustaining this momentum. During the recent Tokyo Game Show, the company hosted a “Metal Gear—Production Hotline” livestream, where they unveiled Metal Gear Solid: The Master Collection Vol. 2. While details remain scarce—leading to playful demands for the inclusion of MGS4—the event also showcased a new multiplayer mode called Fox Hunt, set to launch on October 30.

Fox Hunt introduces a unique twist on gameplay mechanics, differing from the previous Octocamo system by allowing players to manually select their camouflage. A particularly clever example demonstrated a player diving into a patch of grass to blend seamlessly with the environment. The new AT-CAMO suit appears bulkier than its predecessors, likely designed to enhance visibility during movement.

In addition to these features, players will encounter the intriguingly named Naked Sense, which enables the detection of nearby opponents and items. While it offers a standard “bat-vision” for item location, its functionality regarding enemies remains somewhat ambiguous, providing only a general directional cue.

Although Fox Hunt may not replicate the depth of Metal Gear Online, it appears to leverage the core mechanics of Delta effectively. However, there are concerns regarding the timing and content of this new mode. With only two modes available and its release scheduled two months post-Delta’s launch, one must wonder how many of the anticipated million players will return to engage with Fox Hunt.
