Red Dead Redemption Comes to Mobile
I must admit, I was initially skeptical about Netflix venturing into the world of gaming. However, the recent news that Red Dead Redemption is now available on Android, iPhone, and iPad for the first time has certainly caught my attention.
The announcement from game maker Rock Star Games describes the opportunity to experience John Marston’s epic journey through the American West and Mexico to take down the Van der Linde Gang in Red Dead Redemption, as well as his battle against a zombie outbreak in Undead Nightmare. Both games are now accessible on iOS and Android mobile devices, and are free for Netflix subscribers.
This release not only brings a beloved classic to mobile platforms, but also offers enhanced versions of Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Players who owned previous versions of the game can upgrade for free and continue their progress seamlessly. However, it is worth noting that a Netflix account is required to play on these platforms.
For those unfamiliar with the game, Red Dead Redemption is a critically acclaimed third-person action adventure set in the Old West, originally released in 2010. With over 25 million units sold, the game has been praised as one of the greatest video games of all time. Despite its success, the game did not make its way to PC until late 2024.
Personally, I have already installed the game on my iPad and am pleased to report that it can be downloaded from the Apple App Store (or Google Play Store for Android) without the need to access it through the Netflix app. However, logging into Netflix is required to play the game. While it is a single player experience, the game includes bonus content from the Game of the Year Edition and other exciting features, all while maintaining its impressive visuals and smooth gameplay on mobile devices.
