PS5 Emulator KytyPS5 Makes Waves with In-Game Progress
The PlayStation 5 is still part of Sony’s latest console generation, alongside the PlayStation 5 Pro, so we weren’t expecting to see major strides regarding PS5 emulation. However, a new emulator has recently made some waves.
KytyPS5 is an open-source PS5 emulator for PC that’s available via GitHub, and it currently goes in-game in a variety of titles. These games include Astro’s Playroom, Crash Bandicoot 4, Hitman: World of Assassination, Uncharted 4, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Silent Hill f, Silent Hill 2 Remake, and Tekken 8.
Perhaps the most astounding achievement is that it can now boot up Marvel’s Wolverine. A video posted online by X user Jose Coixao shows Wolverine’s main menu running in slow-motion. There are several caveats with this video, though.
- We don’t see gameplay, for starters, suggesting the title doesn’t go in-game just yet.
- The user is running the emulator on a powerful PC, featuring an NVIDIA RTX 5090 graphics card and an AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D processor.
- There’s no word if this is a forked or modified build of KytyPS5 rather than the stock emulator that’s available to all.
Speaking of modified versions of KytyPS5, we’ve also seen impressive results in two other PS5 games. YouTube channel PSXTech has posted a video showing the Demon’s Souls Remake running gameplay at “40-50fps.” This reportedly uses an internal or modified build of the emulator. It’s an impressive result nonetheless because the title only started going in-game less than a month ago.
A developer has also managed to get the Silent Hill 2 Remake running in-game on a PC with an integrated Radeon 840M GPU. The developer used KytyPlus, which is forked from the mainline KytyPS5 emulator.
We hope the work that went into these internal/modified emulator builds eventually finds its way into KytyPS5 itself. Nevertheless, the emulator developers are clearly making significant strides on their own. So we’re looking forward to seeing how the project progresses regardless. Just don’t expect to emulate PS5 games on your Android device in the next four or five years at the very least.
