Changes in PUBG: A New Era for Weaponry and Compensation
In a move reminiscent of those nostalgic PPI commercials, players who owned QBU skins between 2020 and 2026 may find themselves eligible for compensation. The upcoming PUBG update is set to remove several weapons from the game, and for those with skins tied to these firearms, a significant amount of in-game currency could be on the horizon.
The latest patch notes for the battle royale phenomenon highlight a variety of changes, with a particular focus on the introduction of the new Payday game mode. This marks a strategic expansion for PUBG, venturing beyond its traditional battle royale roots. Following the recent players-versus-aliens mode, the game is now introducing a hero shooter PvE bank heist hybrid that promises to add an exciting twist to gameplay.
As part of this update, PUBG will be streamlining its weapon offerings, removing several underutilized guns to make way for new additions later this year. Among the casualties are the Mosin Nagant and the QBU, both of which have counterparts that serve similar functions—namely, the Kar98k and Mk12. While the P1911 holds a special place in many players’ hearts, its practical use tends to dwindle after the initial drop scramble. Although these removals may be disappointing for fans, the game’s ecosystem will benefit from a more refined selection of weapons.
For those who own skins for the soon-to-be-removed firearms, the news is bittersweet. The patch notes reveal a compensation system designed to ease the transition. Players will receive a variety of in-game currencies, including BP, Credits, and G-Coins, based on the skins they possess. For example, the Seabeast Mosin Nagant skin will yield 200 G-Coins upon removal, while the Firestarter QBU skin will reward players with an impressive 1,490 G-Coins. A comprehensive list of compensation values is available in the patch notes, prompting players to take note of what they can expect come June.
After a quick review, it seems that many players, including myself, will find themselves with a substantial amount of BP next month, particularly those with low-rarity skins. The possibilities for spending this newfound wealth are endless, likely leading to more crates, additional rolls, and an expanded collection of skins. While I welcome these changes, I must admit that if the beloved Kar98k were ever to face a similar fate, it would undoubtedly spark a riot among its loyal fans.
