Game Development Update
A new psychological survival horror game, Signal Veil, is currently in the works for several platforms, including Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. This intriguing project is a collaboration between the Chilean studio Time Hunters and the Tokyo-based publisher Serafini Productions.
Drawing inspiration from the classic survival horror genre, Signal Veil embraces a nostalgic ’90s anime aesthetic. Players will step into the shoes of Aki Mizuno, a teenage girl navigating the eerie halls of Nishikawa High School as she seeks to unravel the enigma behind a string of mysterious disappearances. The narrative takes on a personal dimension for Aki, as her own mother is among those who have vanished.
Central to the gameplay is a supernatural cellphone that Aki inherits, which serves as a vital tool in her quest. This unique device vibrates when invisible spirits are near, allowing players to detect threats that would otherwise go unnoticed. Additionally, the cellphone’s flash can temporarily stun enemies, while its camera reveals hidden objects and imprints scattered throughout the school.
Signal Veil also pays homage to the mechanics of classic survival horror games, featuring fixed camera angles that enhance suspense and tension, reminiscent of titles like Resident Evil and Silent Hill. Combat in the game is designed to be strategic; players will not be able to rely solely on brute force. Resources such as ammunition, medicine, and mystical weapons will be limited, necessitating careful planning and tactical decision-making when confronting each spirit.
KEY FEATURES:
- Classic Fixed Camera: Explore tense environments with preset angles that limit vision and heighten suspense, inspired by Resident Evil and Silent Hill.
- Spiritual Phone: Detect supernatural entities through vibrations, static, or distortions. Use the flash to stun and the camera to reveal hidden objects or imprints.
- Spiritual Purge: Enemies require ritual-like sequences: detect, provoke, stun, expose essence, then purge permanently.
- Limited Tactical Combat: Scarce ammo and improvised weapons. Each entity has unique behaviors, demanding observation, strategy, and environmental exploitation.
While an official release date for Signal Veil has yet to be announced, players can already add the game to their digital wishlists in anticipation of its launch across multiple platforms.
