After a long and winding road, the highly anticipated Subnautica 2 is set to plunge players back into its mesmerizing underwater world on May 14. This open-water survival game, crafted by the original creators of the Subnautica series, invites adventurers to explore stunning biomes, encounter intriguing marine life, and craft essential tools, vehicles, and bases to navigate the mysteries of an alien ocean.
Despite experiencing some turbulence, notably a public dispute between developer Unknown Worlds and publisher Krafton, the game is finally ready to make its debut in early access later this week. As an early access title, Subnautica 2 will be released as a work-in-progress, allowing players to engage with the game while it continues to evolve. “We make our best games when you are involved from the start,” the developers stated. “The earlier you play, the faster we hear what you want. This is how we have historically built our games. By involving you in the development process and iterating on your feedback, we build better games.”
Players can currently preorder and preload Subnautica 2 on platforms such as Steam and Xbox Series X and S, with pre-purchases also available on the Epic Games Store. The game is set to launch directly into Game Pass, marking it as one of the standout titles for May. However, details regarding a PS5 or Nintendo Switch 2 version remain unannounced.
