The Sims 4 Royalty and Legacy: all the confirmed features in the next expansion

The latest expansion for The Sims 4, titled Royalty and Legacy, has been unveiled, igniting excitement among two distinct player groups. Romantasy enthusiasts are poised to craft intricate ‘enemies to lovers’ narratives, while fans eager for an African-themed expansion will find their wishes fulfilled. This new addition focuses on the creation of family dynasties, the pursuit of prestige, and navigating the complexities of scandal, making it a prime choice for Live Mode aficionados.

In collaboration with the Pan African Gaming Group, who previously contributed to last year’s West African update, EA has developed new Create-A-Sim and Build/Buy mode items specifically for Royalty and Legacy. Notably, one of the three neighborhoods in the expansion draws inspiration from West African culture.

The reveal trailer for Royalty and Legacy teases a wealth of features, showcasing three primary families that will play pivotal roles in the expansion’s narrative. Players can expect to encounter a new “scandals” system, along with metrics for dynastic “prestige” and “unity.” And, of course, an abundance of swords—because no royal tale is complete without a touch of ornamental grandeur. A gameplay trailer is set to be released on January 22, promising further insights into the nobility system.

  • Designate an heir
  • Designate an outcast (seemingly limited to one)
  • Usurp the head of the family
  • Expel a Sim from the dynasty
  • Earn “Prestige” for the dynasty, likely unlocking perks at level milestones
  • Manage “Scandals,” such as bad behavior or infidelity, which can diminish Prestige
  • Respond to scandals through apologies, online denials, or even writing a book

Backrooms

The Royalty and Legacy expansion introduces a versatile new lot type known as Backroom. This space can serve multiple purposes, functioning as a library, gym, or museum during the day, and transforming into a nightclub at night. Although the reveal trailer did not showcase this feature in action, it is anticipated that it will utilize the lot segmenting tools from previous expansions to delineate the daytime and nighttime functionalities.

The new world introduced in Royalty and Legacy is named Ondarion, featuring three neighborhoods, each associated with a distinct dynasty:

  • Dambele: A West African-inspired neighborhood and home to the Darong Dynasty, where the arts flourish and communal spaces like open palace gardens and markets reflect a culture of generosity.
  • Verdemar: The domain of the Thebe Dynasty, characterized by heroic outlaws and cunning nobles, mirroring the unpredictability of the surrounding sea.
  • Bellacorde: Home to the Capp Dynasty, this area is defined by romance and opulence, with candlelit corners perfect for secret rendezvous.
