Valve Unveils Steam Frame VR Headset with Android Support
Valve has announced that its new Steam Frame wireless VR headset will be compatible with Android games, aiming to provide users with a seamless gaming experience regardless of the platform a game was built for. The company plans to run standard Android APKs on the device, allowing developers to bring existing mobile and Quest-style VR titles to the headset.
Additionally, the Steam Frame features upgraded LCD panels with a resolution of 2160×2160 per eye, a 72-144Hz refresh rate, and a 21.6 Wh Li-ion battery. While the field of view is slightly narrower compared to the Valve Index, the company has mentioned that display specifications may still change before the official launch.
The headset is powered by an ARM-based Qualcomm Snapdragon chip, enabling Android apps to run natively without the need for translation. Valve has also introduced a developer kit program to support studios in optimizing games for the new headset.
Valve has not disclosed specific pricing details yet, but the Steam Frame, along with the Steam Deck and Steam Machines, is set to launch in the US, Canada, UK, Europe, Australia, and other Komodo-supported regions in early 2026. More information is expected to be released closer to the launch date.
