Director Ryan Coogler’s period horror film Sinners, featuring the talents of Michael B. Jordan, has once again captured the spotlight at the box office, securing million in ticket sales during its second weekend. This impressive performance brings the Warner Bros. Pictures release’s North American total to over 2 million and its global earnings to an impressive 1.6 million.
A notable contributor to this success is the film’s strong performance on Imax hi-definition screens, a fact that has not gone unnoticed by CEO Richard Gelfond. He remarked, “Sinners is taking on the aura of a must-see cultural phenomenon, and the way Imax screens are leading that charge is reminiscent of what we’ve seen with recent [Warner] cinematic events like Oppenheimer and Dune: Part Two.”
In parallel, the studio’s reigning box office champion of the year, A Minecraft Movie, continues to thrive, adding .7 million to its domestic tally, which now stands close to 0 million. Its worldwide earnings have soared to an impressive 6 million.
Meanwhile, Disney/Lucasfilm celebrated the 20th Anniversary re-release of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, which sold an additional .2 million in North American tickets, complemented by .8 million from international markets. This robust performance allowed it to outpace the opening of Amazon MGM Studios’ The Accountant 2, which, despite its star-studded cast including Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal, garnered .2 million domestically and .7 million internationally.
Lastly, Sony/Screen Gems introduced a new player to the box office with its PlayStation-based horror film, Until Dawn, which debuted with million in revenue, alongside an additional .1 million from international audiences.
