In a recent showcase, XREAL Games unveiled new gameplay footage for the highly anticipated Zero Caliber 2, along with a projected release window for its PC VR version on Steam. Initially launched on Quest, the developers have been diligently working to adapt the game for PC VR enthusiasts, reaffirming their commitment to this platform after earlier uncertainties.
Gameplay Enhancements and Features
During the UploadVR Summer Showcase, XREAL Games confirmed that Zero Caliber 2 is set to launch in Q3 2025. The studio emphasized that they “never intended to skip PC VR,” but required additional time to fully engage with the evolving market landscape. This extended development period is not merely for visual enhancements; the team is focused on revamping core gameplay mechanics.
Among the notable upgrades is the introduction of advanced enemy AI, designed to create a more immersive and challenging experience. Enemies will now utilize cover effectively, flank players, and aggressively pursue those who attempt to camp. Additionally, the game will feature improved ragdoll physics, ensuring that defeated foes remain on the battlefield, adding a layer of realism to encounters.
Other enhancements compared to the Quest version include:
- Dynamic shadows
- Enhanced explosion and weapon effects
- Refined environments and lighting
- Smoother vehicle animations
Moreover, several missions are undergoing a complete rebuild, and character models are receiving further refinement to elevate the overall visual fidelity.
Future Plans for PlayStation VR2
In addition to the Steam release, XREAL Games shared insights regarding Zero Caliber 1, which is also targeting a similar Q3 2025 launch on PlayStation VR2. This announcement follows the successful launch of Zero Caliber: Shooting Range, where both main entries were confirmed for Sony’s headset.
When inquired about a release window for Zero Caliber 2 on PlayStation VR2, a representative from XREAL Games mentioned, “We’ll see how Zero Caliber VR performs on the platform before deciding how to move forward with Zero Caliber 2. If all goes as planned (and so far, things are looking on track), we’re aiming for a holiday release window this year.”
Currently, Zero Caliber 2 is available on Quest, with the eagerly awaited Steam version set to follow in Q3 2025. For those interested in an in-depth analysis of the Quest version, a comprehensive review is available below.
