A teacher from Tenoroc High School in Polk County, Eddie Chirino, aged 34, has been arrested following allegations of downloading and distributing child pornography. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office reported that Chirino faces three counts related to the promotion of sexual performance by a child.
Investigation Unfolds
The investigation commenced after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children alerted local authorities. It was discovered that Chirino utilized the Kik messenger app to facilitate the downloading and sharing of illicit videos. In August, detectives visited his residence, where they spoke with his mother, who revealed that he had been using her email for his Kik and Instagram accounts.
During the initial inquiry, detectives executed a search warrant at Chirino’s home, uncovering marijuana in his room. Although he was initially arrested for possession, the investigation expanded following a forensic examination of his electronic devices.
Evidence Emerges
Detectives subsequently discovered three videos on his devices, depicting disturbing content involving young children. The investigation also revealed chat logs between Chirino and other users, alongside search history indicating attempts to download child pornography.
Authorities are currently working to trace the origins of the child pornography, although there is no evidence suggesting that the material was produced locally.
Community Response
Chirino was taken into custody at his home on Friday and is now held at the Polk County Jail. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd emphasized the county’s zero tolerance policy towards child pornography, particularly when it involves educators. He stated, “We will conduct a complete and thorough investigation and work with the State Attorney to ensure he is imprisoned and unable to harm children.”
In light of these events, Polk County Public Schools has confirmed that Chirino will be terminated from his position. Superintendent Fred Heid remarked, “We are cooperating fully with law enforcement and appreciate their efforts to protect children. This behavior is abhorrent; individuals like this have no place in our schools or society.”
