Google has initiated the rollout of Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3 for enrolled Pixel testers, a move that introduces significant security measures aimed at curbing call-forwarding fraud. This update is now available for users with devices including the Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, 7 Pro, 7a, Pixel Fold, and Pixel Tablet, who will receive version vCP41.260731.005.A2. Other users will find themselves on version vCP41.260731.005.B1.
In this latest beta, Google has focused on addressing a couple of notable bugs reported by testers. These include a fix for “visual corruption” and an unexpected device restart that occurred when users attempted to access specific options. Additionally, the update resolves issues related to misleading battery capacity degradation warnings displayed in the Device Health and Support tools.
- New security restrictions for call-forwarding fraud have been implemented, featuring API restrictions and a system confirmation dialog for users manually dialing call-forwarding codes.
- Users will now receive an OS-level confirmation before executing call-forwarding commands, a proactive measure against social engineering scams.
Android Central has highlighted the appeal of these subtle yet impactful changes, particularly the ability to customize the Quick Settings layout. This feature allows users to prioritize the options that matter most to them, whether it’s music controls or brightness settings. Such enhancements reflect Google’s ongoing commitment to making Android more user-friendly and adaptable to individual preferences.
In addition to these updates, a recent post by Android Authority has shed light on the new features included in QPR2 Beta 3. Among these is a revamped Quick Settings menu that offers users three layout options, allowing for a more personalized arrangement of key buttons such as brightness, tiles, and media controls.
As the beta program progresses, it’s worth noting that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro have been removed from the Android beta program, marking the end of their upgrade cycles. Moving forward, the focus will shift to devices starting from the Pixel 6a and newer models. Meanwhile, the eagerly anticipated Pixel 11 series has officially debuted, with pre-order deals available ahead of their market launch in the coming days.
