Android Auto has a PDF app now, but it might be more useful than you think

In a surprising twist for drivers, Adobe has introduced its renowned PDF reader, Adobe Acrobat, to the Android Auto platform. This new feature, part of the latest app update (v26.5.0.45958), allows users to access PDF files directly from their car’s display, appearing as a notification and residing in the app drawer alongside other installed applications.

One might ponder the practicality of a PDF app in a vehicle setting. The answer lies in Acrobat’s innovative “Read Aloud” function, which transforms text from PDF documents into an audio format. This feature enables users to listen to various content, whether it be an audiobook, work documents, or study materials, making it a potentially valuable tool for those on the go. This aligns well with the growing emphasis on productivity within the Android Auto ecosystem, which has recently welcomed applications like Google Meet.

During initial testing, it was noted that the Read Aloud feature does not support every PDF file, but when it does function, users can expect a typical Android Auto media player experience. This development could cater to a niche audience of users who wish to maximize their time spent in transit.
