Android users can now enjoy popular shows such as Severance and Silo while on the move, thanks to the availability of the Apple TV+ app on Google Play. This marks a significant step for Apple, known for its tightly-knit ecosystem that often favors those who exclusively use its devices. However, with this new development, Apple is extending a welcoming hand to Android users.
Expanding Accessibility
Previously, Apple TV+ was accessible through various television operating systems, including Google TV, Samsung, Fire TV, and Roku, as well as gaming consoles like PlayStation. Yet, Android smartphone and tablet users found themselves without a portable option to stream their favorite content. Now, with the app available on Google Play, they can seamlessly watch shows at their desks or catch MLS games while traveling.
The subscription for Apple TV+ is priced at .99 per month, while the MLS Season Pass is available for .99 per month. This dual offering allows sports enthusiasts and TV series fans alike to tailor their viewing experience according to their preferences.
Features Designed for Convenience
The Apple TV+ app brings several user-friendly features designed for those who enjoy streaming across multiple devices. One notable feature is the “Continue Watching” section, which enables users to pick up right where they left off when switching from their TV to their mobile device. Additionally, the app allows users to download episodes for offline viewing, making it convenient to watch content without relying on a WiFi or cellular connection. However, it’s worth noting that Google Cast will not be available at launch.
In a further effort to enhance user experience, Apple has streamlined the subscription process for the Apple TV+ app on Google TV. Users can now add a subscription directly from the app, eliminating the previous requirement to sign in on a computer or phone after downloading.
Major League Soccer Partnership
As part of its ongoing strategy, Apple is currently in the third season of its decade-long partnership with Major League Soccer, with the next season set to kick off on February 22. This means that soccer fans can access all games exclusively through the MLS Season Pass, available within the Apple TV app. Subscribers can choose to purchase the MLS Season Pass as a standalone option or at a discounted rate if they are already Apple TV+ subscribers. This package includes every game throughout the season and postseason, all without regional blackouts.
