Enhancing User Experience with Contextual Cards
Gemini Live is poised to elevate the way users interact with Google’s AI, transforming conversations into a more dynamic experience. Recent developments indicate that Gemini Live will soon incorporate contextual cards, enhancing its ability to provide relevant information from various Google applications.
In the latest iteration of the Google app, references to this new functionality were uncovered, suggesting that Gemini Live will not only manage tasks across different apps but also display pertinent snippets to enrich user interactions. This capability was identified through an APK teardown, a process that allows developers to predict future features based on the underlying code, although it is important to note that not all predicted features may reach public release.
With the activation of feature flags in version 16.25.44.sa.arm64 of the Google app on Android, Gemini Live is set to showcase cards from applications such as Calendar, Keep, Maps, and Tasks during conversations. For example, if a user inquires about a specific location, Gemini Live can provide a Google Maps card, complete with navigation options. Similarly, when adding or modifying a calendar event, a snippet reflecting the changes will accompany the interaction.
This integration brings Gemini Live closer to the functionality of the standard Gemini chatbot while maintaining a conversational flow that feels natural. The introduction of information cards also serves to verify responses, reducing the likelihood of errors that may arise from misinterpretations.
Beyond the initial set of applications, the interface is expected to expand to include cards for Google Keep and Tasks. As extensions are gradually rolled out to users, there is optimism that these cards will soon be accessible to a broader audience, although the exact timeline remains uncertain. Anticipation is building for the inclusion of cards alongside the floating Gemini Live overlay.
Moreover, Google is exploring the integration of additional applications, including Gmail, Google Messages, YouTube, Photos, and even third-party platforms like Spotify and WhatsApp, into the Gemini Live ecosystem. However, the timeline for these features remains ambiguous, particularly regarding whether the card interface will extend to these applications. The functionality of Gemini Live is also expected to be enhanced with features akin to Circle-to-Search, further enriching the user experience.
