GM just ‘unlocked’ over 200 Android Automotive apps, including YouTube, for its Google built-in vehicles

General Motors (GM) has announced an exciting expansion of its Google built-in vehicles, unveiling support for over 200 additional Android Automotive apps. This enhancement includes the ability to access applications on backseat screens, elevating the entertainment experience for all passengers.

In a significant shift from traditional vehicle technology, GM is phasing out support for Android Auto and CarPlay in its newer models. Instead, these vehicles will rely entirely on the integrated infotainment system, which harnesses the capabilities of Android Automotive apps. This week, GM confirmed that the latest software updates have unlocked a plethora of new applications, broadening the digital landscape for drivers and passengers alike.

With OnStar connectivity and our newest software updates, vehicles with Google built-in can now unlock over 200 new apps on Google Play from the center display. Plus, front and rear passenger screens in GM SUVs come loaded with even more apps and services, serving up a massive catalog of movies, shows, songs, podcasts, and live radio and TV channels. That means everyone gets their own watchlist and playlist for no-compromise content on the go.

The newly available streaming apps include popular platforms such as YouTube, Disney+, and Hulu. While Google first introduced video apps on Android Automotive in 2023, GM vehicles are just now gaining access to this feature, which will allow users to enjoy content while parked. Notably, select vehicles will also support these apps on backseat displays.

GM has identified several models from the 2025 lineup and beyond that will support these new applications:

  • Chevrolet: Tahoe and Suburban
  • Cadillac: Escalade, ESCALADE IQ, ESCALADE IQL, and CELESTIQ
  • GMC: Yukon and Yukon XL

Among the streaming services set to be available in GM vehicles equipped with Google built-in are AMC+, Disney+, Hulu, Tubi, TuneIn, ViX, YouTube, and YouTube Kids. Additionally, rear screen support for Amazon Music, iHeartRadio, SiriusXM, and Spotify is anticipated to be introduced soon.

As summer road trips approach, GM’s latest offerings promise to transform the in-vehicle experience, ensuring that every passenger can enjoy personalized entertainment throughout their journey.
