Google Keep finally gets rich text formatting options on the web

What you need to know

In a recent update, Google has enhanced its Google Keep web client, introducing rich text formatting options that align it more closely with the capabilities already available on the Android app. This long-awaited feature allows users to customize their notes with bold, underline, italics, and various heading styles.

  • The new formatting tools can be accessed via an underlined “A” button, making it easy for users to enhance their notes.
  • These features are now available to all Google Workspace customers, as well as personal Google account users.
  • The rollout has just begun, so users can expect to see these enhancements in the coming days or weeks.

Google Keep’s web client has been a staple for note-taking, but the addition of text customization options marks a significant upgrade. Previously, these features had only been available on Android devices since early 2023. Now, users can enjoy a more dynamic note-taking experience on the web.

With the introduction of rich text formatting, users can easily create structured notes that stand out. The formatting options include not only bold and italic text but also the ability to apply headers, enhancing the organization of notes. As noted by The Verge, there remains some uncertainty about whether existing notes will automatically sync with the new formatting capabilities or if they will only apply to new notes created in the web client.

In addition to these enhancements, Google Keep has previously introduced features such as support for handwritten notes on select Android devices equipped with styluses, further expanding its functionality. As the platform continues to evolve, users can look forward to a more versatile and user-friendly note-taking experience.
