Google is in the process of refining the Settings page for its Phone app, aligning it with the anticipated segmented Settings menu design set to debut with Android 16. Recent insights from the latest beta release of the Phone app reveal a sneak peek of this redesign.
Enhanced User Experience
The forthcoming update introduces a more visually appealing layout, featuring backgrounds for menu items organized under each header. This enhancement aims to bolster visibility and usability, making it easier for users to navigate through the settings.
The new design employs rectangular sections for each menu item, effectively delineating touch targets and enhancing the overall user experience. Such thoughtful design choices reflect Google’s commitment to improving accessibility and functionality within its applications.
Evidence of this redesign was initially spotted in the Android 15 Beta 3 update, although it was later removed. However, the Android 15 QPR1 Beta 2 release reinstated it, indicating that the new layout could be integrated into the upcoming Android 16 update.
In the attached screenshots, users can observe the updated settings menu, which features a light gray background in the light theme, complemented by white backgrounds for individual menu items. In contrast, the dark mode presents a dark gray backdrop with black backgrounds for the menu items, creating a cohesive aesthetic that adapts to user preferences.
Additionally, the new design appears to support dynamic theming based on the user’s wallpaper, allowing for a more personalized interface. While this redesign is not yet active in the current beta build of the Phone app, it is expected to roll out with future updates.
