Google rolling out new ‘Signatures’ app to Pixel and other Android phones [Gallery]

Google is discreetly expanding its suite of tools for Android users with the introduction of a new utility app named “Signatures.” This application is beginning to surface on Pixel devices and select other Android smartphones, coinciding with the June 2026 Play system update.

Reports indicate that the “Signatures” app is currently operational on devices such as the Google Pixel 10 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, with the latter seeing the app become available immediately following the June update installation. However, the compatibility of this app remains somewhat ambiguous, as it has not appeared on an Oppo Find X9 Ultra despite the same update being installed. Interestingly, it has been noted on some OnePlus devices that have also received the update.

Curiously, the app has not been highlighted in Google’s official changelog for the June 2026 update, raising questions about its intended functionality and scope.

What does the app do?

The primary function of the “Signatures” app is to serve as a repository for users’ digital signatures. This could include signatures that users have drawn directly on their screens, typed out, or scanned from physical documents.

While the app’s purpose is clear, the methods by which users can utilize their stored signatures remain uncertain. Speculation suggests potential integration with popular applications such as PDF viewers, online form services like DocuSign, or other relevant platforms. However, as it stands, the app can only be accessed by manually launching its activity components.

The rollout of the app is ongoing, indicating that Google may have further developments planned. Initially identified on a Pixel device running Android 17, the app, designated as (com.google.android.signature), carries a version number of “17” and is compatible with Android 12 and newer versions. This suggests that Google is likely aiming for a broad deployment of the app, although it is currently not available through the Play Store and seems to be distributed exclusively via Play System Updates.
