Microsoft is currently piloting an innovative feature for Windows 11 that promises to enhance the synergy between smartphones and PCs. This new capability allows users to seamlessly resume Android applications on their computers, with Spotify being the inaugural app to support this functionality.
Integration of Android Apps on Windows 11
The feature is being rolled out to Windows Insiders participating in the Dev and Beta Channels. To utilize this functionality, users must first link their Android devices to their PCs. When a song is playing on the Spotify mobile app, a notification will appear on Windows 11, prompting users with the message “Resume from your phone” and offering a “Continue on this PC” option. By selecting this prompt, users can either open the Spotify desktop application or be directed to install it, allowing for a smooth continuation of their music experience.
This feature was initially showcased during a Build 2025 demonstration, although the specific details have since been removed. Its design bears a resemblance to Apple’s Handoff, which facilitates the transition of tasks across various Apple devices, including iPhones, iPads, Macs, and Apple Watches.
While Microsoft has yet to announce plans for broader app compatibility, the underlying vision is evident: to expand this continuity tool to encompass a wider range of activities, such as reading articles or composing emails. If this initiative proves successful, it could emerge as one of the most user-friendly cross-device features within Windows 11.
