Opera offers an eSIM in its Android browser: available in 47 regions, with 3 GB free

Opera is stepping into the realm of mobile connectivity, transforming itself into a virtual international mobile operator with the introduction of its own eSIMs. This innovative offering allows users to install eSIMs directly through their browser, providing a seamless data-only service tailored for travelers.

Convenient Data Solutions for Travelers

Travelers can take advantage of a complimentary 3GB data package, valid for three days post-activation. This service is currently available in select countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Canada, United Arab Emirates, Brazil, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and Poland. Notably, there is “no obligation” to activate the service, meaning users are not required to provide payment information or an email address.

“We’ve built this directly into the Opera browser for Android phones, so you don’t need a second app. You can forget about queues at airport kiosks to get a new SIM card, and forget about expensive roaming bills. You can set up an eSIM at home, and the bill won’t start until you land at your destination. The eSIM only covers data and doesn’t replace your existing phone number. […] You don’t have to worry about an unexpected bill waiting for you at home after your trip; if you buy data, you know exactly what you’re paying for,” the official announcement states.

To activate the service, users simply navigate to their profile within the Opera browser, select the eSIM option, click the “Get Now” button, and confirm their choice. It is essential to have a device that supports eSIM hardware and runs on Android 10 or newer. Once the free package is exhausted or unavailable, users can opt for additional data plans of 3GB, 5GB, or 10GB.

Traveling across multiple countries becomes hassle-free with Opera’s eSIM. For instance, if a traveler visits Thailand, then Malaysia, and subsequently Singapore, they can utilize the same eSIM and easily top it up for each destination.

However, it is important to note that the Opera eSIM service is not available in Ukraine. The service is contingent upon the user’s country of residence and can be utilized while traveling. The connection is activated only upon arrival in the selected country, which includes a wide range of destinations such as Albania, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Montenegro, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, or United States.

In addition to this new eSIM feature, Opera continues to innovate with the introduction of an AI feature that can assist users in booking accommodations and purchasing tickets, further enhancing the travel experience.
