The updates, which occurred on six occasions throughout the year, encompassed everything from routine operating system enhancements to the introduction of entirely new applications.

January Feature Drop

The year commenced with a noteworthy January Feature Drop, coinciding with the launch of the “Mint” Pixel 8 and 8 Pro. Among the standout features was the Pixel Thermometer app, which now allows users to record body temperature readings directly from their foreheads, seamlessly integrating with the Fitbit app. Additionally, the launch of Circle to Search on the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, along with the exit of Photomoji and Magic Compose from beta in Google Messages, marked a significant evolution in user interaction. The rebranding of Quick Share from Nearby Share also received attention, setting a positive tone for the year ahead.

New options for casting and screen sharing allowed users to capture a single app, while the Call Screen feature gained a “Hello?” button to engage callers more effectively. The Pixel Tablet also saw the introduction of the Gboard Voice Toolbar, facilitating speech-to-text functionality without the need for a full keyboard.
