Samsung’s Android 18-based One UI 10 update sounds like it might be a big deal

As the rollout of Android 17 continues for various devices, Samsung is quietly preparing its next major update: One UI 10, which is expected to be based on Android 18. Early leaks suggest that this update could introduce a range of noteworthy enhancements.

One UI 10 rumors call the update ‘significant’

While speculation surrounding Samsung often tends to be exaggerated, the initial buzz surrounding One UI 10 indicates that there may be substantial developments on the horizon. Renowned tipster Ice Universe has hinted at “significant changes, unprecedented in nature.” Additionally, the term “Galaxy OS” has surfaced, although its origin remains unclear and the credibility of the rumor is still in question.

Despite the uncertainty, the consensus is that a major update is indeed in progress.

Samsung is overdue for an overhaul, but what will it be?

Although specific features of One UI 10 remain largely undisclosed, it is clear that Samsung is due for a more comprehensive update this year. The last significant overhaul came with One UI 7 in 2024, which revamped elements such as the lock screen and app drawer. This followed the foundational changes introduced in One UI 6 the previous year, with the Android 15 update marking a notable transformation.

Since then, subsequent updates have been relatively modest. One UI 8, based on Android 16, provided minor quality-of-life improvements, while One UI 8.5 built upon this with additional design tweaks and functionality enhancements. Currently, One UI 9, which is based on Android 17, is being rolled out and is considered one of the more understated updates in recent memory.

The question remains: what can users expect from One UI 10? With many Android manufacturers exploring Liquid Glass aesthetics, it’s plausible that Samsung may follow suit. However, the uncertainty surrounding Android 18 complicates predictions. Google has teased new graphical capabilities that developers can utilize, hinting at features like “delightful mesh gradients” and “progressive blurs.” More details are anticipated during the upcoming Android Dev Summit.
