Galaxy smartphone users around the globe can now experience the innovative Collections app, previously a feature exclusive to the Chinese version of One UI. This development marks a significant expansion for Samsung, allowing users to store and manage information more effectively.
The Collections app offers a streamlined way to organize various types of content, including images, text snippets, and links. With the aid of artificial intelligence, users can easily search for and sort their stored information. Although the app is now accessible to users outside of China, it’s important to note that it requires One UI 6 or later to function properly. Some users may encounter minor translation issues, as certain texts remain untranslated, and features like Intelligent Drag and Drop and AI summaries are not yet operational.
What is Collections and how does it work?
At its core, the Collections app serves as a digital repository for users to gather and manage information. It simplifies the process of searching for and categorizing content by leveraging AI technology. Users can select items within the app to view them and generate summaries of their contents. While the Intelligent Drag and Drop feature is intended to facilitate adding items to the app, it is currently non-functional. As a temporary solution, users can utilize the system’s share sheet to add content manually.
How to set up the Collections app
To begin using the Collections app, navigate to the Advanced features section within the Settings app. Upon selecting the Collections option, users will be greeted with an introductory screen that outlines the app’s capabilities. After clicking the “Get started” button, permissions must be granted, including access to the app list and media files such as audio, video, and images.
For added convenience, users can create a shortcut to the Collections app on their home screen by accessing the three-dot menu and selecting Settings. This action will also integrate the app into the share sheet, although it will only appear for compatible file types. With these steps, Galaxy users can enhance their information management experience through the Collections app.
