Tencent Removes Dungeon & Fighter Mobile Game from Selected Android App Stores
Tencent announced on Thursday that it will be removing its popular mobile game Dungeon & Fighter (DnF Mobile) from certain Android app stores due to expired contracts. This decision comes as game developers in China continue to face challenges with distributors over revenue sharing issues in the growing mobile game market.
One of the main points of contention between developers and Android app stores has been the standard 50 per cent revenue share split. Tencent, as China’s leading game developer, did not disclose which specific app stores would be impacted by this removal. However, reports suggest that stores such as Huawei, Oppo, and Vivo will be affected.
This is not the first time Tencent has faced such a situation. In 2021, Huawei removed several of Tencent’s mobile games from its app store due to disagreements over revenue sharing. These disputes highlight the ongoing challenges faced by game developers in navigating partnerships with app stores in China.
