Google’s Gemini AI is making significant strides, particularly in the realm of mobile integration. As competition in the AI assistant space heats up, Gemini stands out with its seamless incorporation into Android devices and its synergy with Google Search. Recently, Google unveiled the Gemini 2.0 Flash model, which promises enhanced performance over its predecessor, the 1.5 Pro, across key benchmarks.

New Features for Beta Users

The latest update to the Google app, version 15.49.42 beta, introduces an exciting feature that allows users to select from various Gemini models tailored to their needs. Previously available only on the web for Gemini Advanced users, this functionality is now accessible on Android devices. By simply tapping the header area displaying the current model name, users can switch between options.

The available models include:

  • Gemini 1.5 Pro: Ideal for tackling complex tasks.
  • Gemini 1.5 Flash: Optimized for everyday tasks where speed is essential.
  • Gemini 2.0 Flash Experimental: The latest iteration, currently in testing.

While experimenting with the feature prior to its rollout, users found the 2.0 Flash Experimental model unavailable for selection. However, with the subsequent release of Google app version 15.50.37 beta, this model is now part of the testing options.

It’s important to note that the “Experimental” label indicates potential instability; some features may not function as intended. For routine inquiries, the 1.5 Flash model is recommended, while the 1.5 Pro remains the go-to for in-depth research tasks. Stable branch users will need to exercise patience, as the rollout for this feature is expected to reach them soon.
