Snowflake has announced its intention to acquire Crunchy Data, a provider of trusted open-source PostgreSQL technology and products. This strategic move, unveiled during the Snowflake Summit 2025, aims to integrate an enterprise-grade PostgreSQL database into the AI Data Cloud, empowering developers to harness the full potential of Postgres while adhering to rigorous governance, security, and operational standards for AI-driven applications.

The acquisition is set to enhance the capabilities of enterprises across various sectors, enabling them to develop and deploy AI agents and applications using Snowflake Postgres. This initiative addresses the growing demand for secure Postgres functionalities. By leveraging Crunchy Data’s expertise in operating within Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) compliant environments, Snowflake Postgres will bring robust capabilities to its AI Data Cloud.
