Announcing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.5305 (Beta Channel)

Hello Windows Insiders, today marks the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.5305 (KB5055636) to the Beta Channel for users on Windows 11, version 23H2. This update signifies a pivotal moment, as it will be the last for the Beta Channel based on this version. Soon, all Insiders will transition to Windows 11, version 24H2, with future updates in the Beta Channel aligning with this new version. Currently, Windows 11, version 24H2 is available as an optional upgrade for those in the Beta Channel.

Changes and updates in the Beta Channel are categorized into two segments: new features, improvements, and fixes that are gradually rolled out for Insiders who have opted to receive the latest updates (accessible via Settings > Windows Update), and those that are rolling out to all users in the Beta Channel. For further details, please refer to the Reminders section at the end of this post.

New features gradually being rolled out to the Beta Channel with toggle on*

New profanity filter setting for voice typing

In response to valuable customer feedback, we are pleased to introduce a new setting for voice typing that allows users to manage the profanity filter. When enabled, this feature will continue to mask profanity with asterisks, while disabling it will allow for unfiltered input. To adjust this setting, simply open voice typing (Win + H), select the settings icon, and toggle the profanity filter option in the menu.

Changes and Improvements gradually being rolled out to the Beta Channel with toggle on*

[Taskbar & System Tray]

  • Administrators can now permit users to unpin specific pinned apps, ensuring they remain unpinned during the next policy refresh cycle. This feature can be activated using the new PinGeneration option. For detailed guidance on configuring pinned apps on the taskbar, please refer to our documentation.

Fixes gradually being rolled out to the Beta Channel with toggle on*

[File Explorer]

  • Resolved an issue where tapping the View button in File Explorer with touch would cause the application to crash.

[Windows Spotlight]

  • Fixed a problem where the Windows Spotlight flyout for “learn more about this picture” could become stuck above other application windows when set as the desktop background.

[Input]

  • Addressed an issue where utilizing the Symbols section of the touch keyboard could inadvertently insert a character into password fields when changing pages.

[Settings]

  • Corrected an issue where hovering over the cards at the top of System > About did not display the correct corner radius.

Known issues

[Xbox Controllers]

  • [NEW] Some Insiders are encountering a bug where using their Xbox Controller via Bluetooth leads to a system bugcheck. To resolve this, open Device Manager by searching for it in the taskbar. Once open, click “View” and then “Devices by Driver.” Locate the driver named “oemXXX.inf (XboxGameControllerDriver.inf)” where “XXX” represents a specific number on your PC. Right-click on this driver and select “Uninstall.”

Reminders for Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel

  • Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel on Windows 11, version 23H2 will receive updates based on Windows 11, version 23H2 through an enablement package (Build 22635.xxxx).
  • Many features in the Beta Channel are deployed using Controlled Feature Rollout technology, starting with a subset of Insiders and gradually expanding as we monitor feedback.
  • For those who wish to be among the first to receive features gradually rolled out to you, enable the toggle to receive the latest updates via Settings > Windows Update. As time progresses, we will increase the rollout of features to all users with the toggle activated. If you prefer to keep this toggle off, new features will be rolled out to your PC over time once they are ready.
  • Features and experiences included in these builds may not ultimately be released as we explore different concepts and gather feedback. Features may evolve, be removed, or replaced, and may not be available beyond Windows Insiders. Some of these features could appear in future Windows releases when they’re ready.
  • Active development features previewed with Windows Insiders may not be fully localized initially, with localization occurring over time as features are finalized. We appreciate reports on localization issues via the Feedback Hub.
  • As the Dev and Beta Channels represent parallel development paths, it’s possible for features and experiences to debut in the Beta Channel first.
  • For a comprehensive overview of which build is in which Insider channel, please visit Flight Hub.

Thanks,
Amanda & Brandon
