Announcing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27808 (Canary Channel)

Hello Windows Insiders, today marks the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27808 to the Canary Channel. It is important to note that there are currently no plans to release SDKs for the 27xxx series builds.

Changes and Improvements

[Task Manager]

  • We are initiating a significant update to the Task Manager, specifically in how it calculates CPU utilization across the Processes, Performance, and Users pages. This update will align our metrics with industry standards and third-party tools, ensuring a consistent display of CPU workload. For users who prefer the previous method, a new optional column titled CPU Utility is now available on the Details tab, though it remains hidden by default.

Fixes

[Gaming]

  • We have resolved an issue that caused some popular games, including Roblox, to experience a bugcheck (green screen) upon launch in Build 27802.

[Printing]

  • An issue where printing from certain applications led to a bugcheck (green screen) in Build 27802 has been fixed.

[Search]

  • We addressed a problem that resulted in a blank search window for some Insiders when searching from the taskbar, which was caused by a background crash.

[Graphics]

  • We have fixed an underlying issue that could cause the Settings app to crash when adding a color profile in Settings > System > Display.
  • Additionally, we resolved an issue that prevented color profiles from loading correctly after waking the PC from sleep.

[Power and Battery]

  • We corrected an issue where the colors in the new battery icon were not displayed accurately when the Personalization > Colors mode was set to certain custom options.

[BitLocker]

  • Improvements have been made to enhance the performance of loading early boot UI elements, including the BitLocker PIN, Recovery key, and boot menu screens.
  • We also fixed a BitLocker loop issue affecting a small number of Insiders in Build 27802.
  • Furthermore, an issue that caused an error when running Get-BitLockerVolume in recent flights has been addressed.

[Other]

  • We believe that a change made in the previous flight has resolved issues reported with Hyper-V and other features dependent on Hyper-V, such as WSL. Should you continue to experience problems, please provide feedback through the Feedback Hub.

Known Issues

[General]

  • [IMPORTANT NOTE FOR COPILOT+ PCs] If you are transitioning to the Canary Channel on a new Copilot+ PC from the Dev Channel, Release Preview Channel, or retail, please be aware that you will lose your Windows Hello PIN and biometrics, resulting in error 0xd0000225 with the message “Something went wrong, and your PIN isn’t available.” You can recreate your PIN by selecting “Set up my PIN.”
  • [NEW] We are currently investigating a d3d9.dll crash that is causing multiple applications to fail to launch, starting with Build 27802 for some Insiders.

Microsoft Store Update

Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels running version 22402.x and higher of the Microsoft Store will notice the following enhancements:

  • New Spotlight Design: A fresh design for the “spotlight” on department pages is being tested, showcasing more products at a glance for users to explore.
  • New spotlight design in the Store.
  • Updates to the Downloads Page: The Downloads page is undergoing improvements with new sections to display updates for Microsoft-managed apps, which will be applied automatically, alongside updates for publisher-managed apps that can be updated independently. This enhancement aims to simplify the management of app and game updates.
  • New sections to display updates for Microsoft-managed apps in the Store highlighted in green boxes.
  • FEEDBACK: We encourage you to submit feedback in the Feedback Hub (WIN + F) regarding the Microsoft Store.

Reminders for Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel

  • The builds released to the Canary Channel represent the latest platform changes early in the development cycle and should not be viewed as corresponding to any specific release of Windows. Features and experiences included in these builds may never be released, as we explore different concepts and gather feedback. Features may evolve, be removed, or replaced before they reach a broader audience.
  • Many features in the Canary Channel are rolled out using Control Feature Rollout technology, beginning with a subset of Insiders and gradually expanding based on feedback.
  • Some features may first appear in the Dev and Beta Channels before making their way to the Canary Channel.
  • Features currently under active development may not be fully localized, with localization occurring over time as features are finalized. If you encounter localization issues, please report them via the Feedback Hub.
  • To exit the Canary Channel, a clean installation of Windows 11 will be necessary. Insiders cannot switch to a channel receiving builds with lower numbers without performing a clean install due to technical requirements.
  • The desktop watermark displayed in the lower right corner of the desktop is standard for these pre-release builds.
  • For a comprehensive overview of which build is in which Insider channel, please refer to Flight Hub.

Thank you,
Amanda & Brandon
