Hello Windows Insiders, today marks the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27950 to the Canary Channel, bringing with it a series of enhancements and fixes aimed at refining your experience.
Changes and Improvements
[General]
- This update introduces a modest collection of general improvements and fixes designed to enhance the overall experience for Insiders utilizing this build on their PCs.
[Settings]
- Upon updating to this build, the Advanced Settings will revert to the previous “For Developers” experience. Rest assured, this change will return shortly.
Fixes
[General]
- Resolved an issue that caused some Insiders to encounter a rollback when attempting to install the latest build, specifically those facing either the 0xC1900101-0x20017 or 0xC1900101-0x30017 errors.
[Taskbar and System Tray]
- Addressed a problem that could lead to app preview windows in the taskbar becoming misaligned after a change in display resolution.
[File Explorer]
- Fixed an issue where interactions with the context menu in File Explorer could render the body of the application unresponsive to clicks.
- Resolved a situation that could cause certain apps to hang when launching the Open or Save Dialog.
- Corrected an issue where right-clicking in the presence of certain installed apps would cause the context menu to unexpectedly toggle between the normal view and “Show more options.”
[Graphics]
- Addressed a problem that resulted in screen flickers for some Insiders while using the browser and potentially in other scenarios within the latest Canary builds.
[Audio]
- If you encountered audio issues following the latest updates, these should now be resolved. However, as audio problems can stem from various sources, we encourage you to submit feedback under Devices and Drivers > Audio and Sound in the Feedback Hub, ideally including a trace using the “Capture the issue” option in Step #4 of your report.
[Dynamic Lighting]
- Fixed a concern in Dynamic Lighting where the Dynamic Lighting Background Controller would occasionally use excessive CPU resources after unlocking the machine.
[Other]
- We have undertaken foundational work to enhance performance during gaming sessions with the game bar or other overlays. This improvement may particularly benefit users with multiple monitors featuring different refresh rates. As always, if you experience game performance issues, please provide feedback along with a trace of the issue.
Known Issues
[General]
- We are actively working on a solution for an issue affecting some Insiders with Arm64 PCs, which has led to an increase in bugchecks (green screens) with the error IRQLNOTLESSOREQUAL in the latest Canary builds.
[For Developers]
- PIX on Windows is currently unable to playback GPU captures on this OS version. A new PIX release, expected by the end of September, will address this. In the meantime, if you are affected, please use the “Send Feedback” button in PIX or reach out to us on the DirectX Discord server for assistance with private builds.
Reminders for Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel
- The builds released to the Canary Channel represent the latest platform changes early in the development cycle and should not be interpreted as aligned with any specific Windows release. Features and experiences included in these builds may never be released as we explore various concepts and gather feedback. Over time, features may evolve, be removed, or replaced, with some potentially appearing in future Windows releases when they are ready.
- Many features in the Canary Channel are rolled out using Control Feature Rollout technology, starting with a subset of Insiders and gradually expanding as we monitor feedback to evaluate their performance.
- Some features may debut in the Dev and Beta Channels before making their way to the Canary Channel.
- Active development features previewed with Windows Insiders may not be fully localized initially; localization will occur over time as features are finalized. Please report any localization issues you encounter via the Feedback Hub.
- To exit the Canary Channel, a clean installation of Windows 11 will be necessary. Insiders cannot switch to a channel receiving builds with lower build numbers without performing a clean installation due to technical setup requirements.
- The desktop watermark displayed in the lower right corner of the desktop is standard for these pre-release builds.
- For a comprehensive overview of which build is in which Insider channel, please visit Flight Hub.
Thank you for your continued engagement and feedback,
Amanda & Brandon
