Microsoft is enhancing the Copilot experience on Windows 11, rolling out a new feature across all channels of the Windows Insider Program that seamlessly integrates web browsing into the app itself.
Enhanced Functionality for Users
In a recent announcement, the Microsoft Copilot team shared insights into this innovative update. “In today’s update, we are introducing a new way to get things done in the Copilot app on Windows,” they stated. This update allows users to open links directly within a side pane adjacent to their ongoing conversation, eliminating the need to switch to a separate browser window and thereby maintaining contextual continuity.
This dual approach not only streamlines the user experience by allowing web access directly within the Copilot app but also ensures that Microsoft Edge is the default browser for these interactions. This integration is designed to enhance productivity by keeping users focused on their tasks without unnecessary distractions.
Furthermore, Copilot will request permission to access the content of any web tabs opened during a conversation, ensuring that the information is relevant and contextually appropriate. Users will find that tabs opened in a conversation are saved for future reference, making it easier to revisit important information later. For those who opt in, there’s also the convenience of syncing passwords and form data, simplifying the workflow within the Copilot environment.
Additional Features and Improvements
This update also brings new features from Copilot.com, including Podcasts and Study and Learn mode, directly into the app. While some unspecified features have been temporarily removed, Microsoft assures users that these will be reinstated prior to the general release. Alongside these enhancements, users can expect performance and reliability improvements, all packaged in Copilot app version 146.0.3856.39.
