Microsoft says Windows 11 24H2 is ready for ASUS PCs after a BIOS update fixes BSOD
Windows 11 24H2 has recently become accessible for a wider range of ASUS PCs, following a BIOS update that addresses a persistent Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) issue. This development comes on the heels of earlier reports indicating that the update was initially available for systems utilizing the Auto HDR feature, which enhances standard graphics content by converting it into High Dynamic Range, resulting in a more lifelike visual experience.
As highlighted by Windows Latest in October, certain ASUS models, particularly the X415KA and X515KA, encountered crashes characterized by the infamous BSOD when users attempted to download and install Windows 11 24H2. The root cause of this problem remained elusive, impacting a significant number of ASUS customers.
In a statement to Windows Latest, ASUS support clarified that the compatibility issues with Windows 11 24H2 were linked to specific hardware features in the affected models, while no other widespread problems were reported for the broader ASUS lineup. Recently, a new BIOS patch has been rolled out via Windows Update for the impacted ASUS PCs, which is crucial for certain configurations. Users who have not yet received the Windows 11 24H2 update or cannot locate it during their update checks are advised to seek out this new BIOS update.
According to Microsoft’s documentation, ASUS BIOS versions 311 or older will not be eligible for the Windows 11 24H2 update. This particular BIOS update, classified as a Critical Update (CU), is noteworthy because it will not install automatically; typically, BIOS updates are optional unless they address significant security vulnerabilities.
What could still block the Windows 11 24H2 update?
Despite these advancements, several issues continue to hinder the upgrade to Windows 11 24H2. One notable concern involves PCs equipped with Dirac Audio (cridspapo.dll), which may experience audio output loss post-installation of the update.
Microsoft has implemented restrictions on devices exhibiting the following issues after the Windows 11 2024 Update:
At this juncture, it remains uncertain when the upgrade will be fully unblocked for all users. However, there is hope that this will occur gradually, ideally prior to the anticipated announcement of Windows 11 25H2. Have you made the leap to Windows 11 24H2?
