Tesla Giga Berlin quickly resolves IT problems from worldwide Windows outage
Tesla Giga Berlin faced a significant IT outage that impacted various industries globally on Friday. Despite this challenge, the electric vehicle manufacturer’s Model Y factory managed to recover swiftly within the same day.
According to a report from Politico EU, a technical glitch caused by a software update from cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike led to a widespread outage affecting computers running Microsoft Windows. This issue had ripple effects on sectors such as airports, hospitals, media companies, and auto factories.
As reported by rbb24, Tesla Germany acknowledged around 10:35 a.m. local time that the IT outage had partially affected Model Y production at Giga Berlin. The disruption was attributed to the cloud storage of data related to the vehicles slated for production. Despite the setback, Tesla Germany assured that it was actively working on an internal solution and had no intentions of sending workers home prematurely.
By 2:45 p.m., Tesla Germany confirmed to rbb24 that the IT issues at Giga Berlin had been successfully resolved. Consequently, Model Y production resumed, and the overall vehicle manufacturing process returned to normalcy. However, Tesla did not disclose the specific measures taken to address the IT challenges.
CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz clarified the nature of the IT outage in a post on X, emphasizing that it was not the result of a cyberattack. Instead, the disruption stemmed from a software update deployed for Windows hosts. Kurtz reassured customers that the issue had been identified, isolated, and rectified, with ongoing updates available through the support portal.
