According to Microsoft’s lifecycle policy, the Enterprise and Education editions of Windows 11 24H2 will continue to enjoy mainstream support until October 2027. This distinction highlights the varying support timelines across different editions, allowing businesses and educational institutions to plan their upgrade paths accordingly.
In a recent message center update, Microsoft stated, “On October 13, 2026, Windows 11, version 24H2 Home and Pro editions, and Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016 will reach end of updates.” Following this date, devices running these editions will no longer receive monthly security updates or non-security preview updates, which are essential for protecting against the latest security threats.
To mitigate potential risks, customers are encouraged to upgrade to Windows 11 25H2, also referred to as the Windows 11 2025 Update. This latest version became generally available in September 2024 and can be installed through an enablement package, making the transition smoother for users.
Additionally, Microsoft has indicated that systems running Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro that are not managed by IT departments will automatically upgrade to Windows 11 25H2. Users will still retain control over when to restart or postpone the update, providing flexibility during the transition.
For those looking to check their eligibility for the update, Microsoft advises navigating to Settings > Windows Update and selecting Check for updates. If the device is ready for the upgrade, users will see the option to Download and install Windows 11, version 25H2.
