Windows 11 KB5060829 update released with 38 new changes, fixes

Microsoft has unveiled the KB5060829 preview cumulative update for Windows 11 24H2, introducing a suite of 38 enhancements, notably an improved taskbar and a new PC-to-PC migration experience. This optional update, released at the end of each month, allows Windows administrators to test various bug fixes and features ahead of the next month’s Patch Tuesday release.

Unlike the standard Patch Tuesday updates, which include essential security patches, the KB5060829 update focuses on non-security improvements. Among its most anticipated features is the PC-to-PC migration experience, designed to facilitate the transfer of files and settings from older computers to new ones during the setup process. While this feature is not yet available, users can expect its rollout in a future update.

Additionally, Microsoft has made adjustments to the taskbar, allowing for more app icons to be displayed when space is limited. Users can customize this setting by navigating to Taskbar settings > Taskbar behaviors > Show smaller taskbar buttons.

To install the KB5060829 update, users should access Settings, select Windows Update, and click on ‘Check for Updates’. As this is an optional update, users will need to click the ‘Download and install’ link to proceed. Alternatively, the update can be manually downloaded from the Microsoft Update Catalog.

Windows 11 KB5060829 highlights

Upon installation, this optional non-security preview update will elevate Windows 11 24H2 systems to build 26100.4484. The June 2025 preview update brings several notable fixes and enhancements, including:

  • [Scripting] Resolved an issue where running a script on a remote Server Message Block (SMB) share hosted on older Windows Server versions, such as Windows Server 2019, could lead to unexpected delays.
  • Fixed a problem where pressing ALT + Tab to exit a full-screen game could cause other applications, like Windows Terminal, to become unresponsive.
  • Addressed an issue where Explorer.exe might unexpectedly stop functioning when dragging a window with window snapping enabled.
  • [Windows Hello] Corrected a problem that hindered the automatic renewal of expiring certificates in Windows Hello for Business.
  • [Storage optimization] Fixed an issue that prevented the complete removal of unused language packs and Feature on Demand packages, leading to unnecessary storage consumption and prolonged Windows Update installation times.
  • Improved the responsiveness of Windows Search, which previously could take over 10 seconds to load.

However, Microsoft has acknowledged a known issue affecting the June 2025 KB5060829 preview update, where CJK (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) text may appear blurry or unclear at 96 DPI (100% scaling) in Chromium-based browsers like Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

Windows 11 24H2 is currently in broad deployment and accessible to all users via Windows Update. Furthermore, Microsoft is rolling out the Windows 11 2024 Update to all eligible Windows 10 22H2 PCs.
