Microsoft is preparing to unveil a series of exciting updates for Windows 11, with a focus on enhancing user experience through artificial intelligence. The company has rolled out two preview builds—Windows 11 Build 26100.3613 and Windows 11 Build 26100.3624—available to Windows Insiders. These updates are expected to be officially released in April, although the rollout will occur gradually, with some features being released at different times.
At the forefront of these updates is the introduction of semantic search, a feature designed to revolutionize how users find files and settings. This innovative search capability allows users to describe what they are looking for in natural language rather than relying on exact keywords. For instance, instead of searching for a specific file name, users can simply type “photo of children at school,” making the search process more intuitive and user-friendly.
New AI Features Coming to Windows 11
Semantic search will not only enhance the Windows Search function but will also be integrated into the Settings menu, allowing users to articulate their needs more freely. However, it’s important to note that this feature will initially be available exclusively on Windows devices powered by Snapdragon processors. For those using AMD or Intel systems, the wait continues, although the feature will function offline, eliminating the need for an internet connection.
In addition to semantic search, Microsoft is expanding its AI capabilities to include live captions and real-time translation. This feature will enable users on AMD and Intel Copilot+ PCs to capture and translate spoken content into English across various platforms, including video calls and streamed content. Conversely, Snapdragon PC users will be able to translate English into Chinese in real-time.
Moreover, enhancements to Voice Access are on the horizon. Microsoft aims to make this feature more flexible by allowing users to describe their commands rather than adhering to strict syntax. This update will also introduce support for the Chinese language, broadening accessibility for users worldwide.
Other Changes Coming to Windows
Beyond AI advancements, Microsoft is implementing changes to improve system monitoring. Users will soon notice “cards” within the Settings app that display key specifications such as CPU, memory, and storage, streamlining access to important information. Additionally, Task Manager will undergo modifications in how it tracks CPU utilization, although specific details remain under wraps.
For those utilizing desktop PCs, a new Xbox gamepad keyboard interface will allow users to type using their game controllers, catering to diverse setups. Furthermore, an updated emoji interface will be introduced, featuring a new system tray icon to facilitate emoji insertion, making it easier for users to express themselves visually.
Microsoft is also collaborating with developers to enhance widgets, promising greater control over which widgets appear on users’ lock screens. While the specifics of these improvements are yet to be revealed, they signal a commitment to refining the user experience on Windows 11.
