Microsoft has rolled out update preview versions for the latest Windows builds, specifically targeting users of Windows 11 23H3 and Windows 10 22H2. This marks a significant moment for Windows 10, as it is the final update preview for this version, according to the tech giant. Among the key features highlighted is the introduction of Windows Backup for Organizations, which aims to enhance productivity and streamline device management.
The preview for Windows 11 23H2, identified by knowledgebase number KB5064080, elevates the build to version 22621.5840. While the updates are relatively minor, they include improvements to the reliability of the “Copilot key” and updates to mobile provider profiles. Notably, issues with the removable disk policy that previously hindered USB stick access have been addressed, along with enhancements to the speed of accessing SMB shares when utilizing Quick UDP Internet Connections (QUIC).
For Windows 10, the update preview KB5063842 raises the version status to 19045.6282. Similar to its Windows 11 counterpart, this update includes minor corrections and introduces a new licensing feature. This feature allows users of the Windows 10 Keyless Commercial ESU solution, in conjunction with a Windows 365 subscription, to block outgoing network traffic. Updated mobile provider profiles and fixes to the removable disk access policy are also part of this release.
Relocation tool: Windows backup for organizations
Microsoft emphasizes the significance of the Windows Backup for Organizations tool, which is designed to simplify device management and troubleshooting. The functionality of this tool builds on previous announcements regarding support extensions for Windows 10 home users. With the organizational backup software now generally available, Microsoft asserts that it will enable easier device resets and quicker restoration of settings and apps from the Microsoft Store. This feature also facilitates seamless migration from Windows 10 to Windows 11, ultimately boosting productivity.
To utilize this backup solution, devices must be connected to Microsoft Entra and must be running at least Windows 11 22H2. The “Out-of-box experience” (OOBE) wizard has been prepared for this since the August 2025 security update, ensuring compatibility with Windows 11 22H2 Build 22621.3958, Windows 11 23H2 Build 22631.3958, and Windows 11 24H2 Build 26100.1301 and newer. Additionally, access to the Intune service admin or global admin is required, and IT managers must opt-in to activate this feature for their entire tenant. To restore specific user computers, the same Entra login used during the backup creation must be employed.
Furthermore, Microsoft has issued a reminder regarding the expiration of Windows Secure Boot certificates, set for June 2026. The company cautions that failure to update these certificates in a timely manner may impact the secure booting capabilities of various personal and business devices. As such, proactive updates are recommended to ensure uninterrupted device functionality.
