Xbox app adds quickbar for convenient game launches on Windows handheld PCs

The Xbox app has recently introduced an exciting new feature designed to enhance the gaming experience on Windows handheld PCs. This feature, known as “jump back in,” allows players to quickly access their recently played games, streamlining the process of diving back into gameplay. For gamers utilizing devices like the Lenovo Legion Go or ASUS ROG Ally, this addition is particularly beneficial, as it caters to the growing demand for convenient on-the-go gaming solutions.

Enhancing Convenience for Gamers

Microsoft is steadily progressing towards the development of a dedicated Xbox handheld device. However, before this hardware becomes a reality, the company is focusing on refining its existing Xbox PC gaming platform, particularly for smaller screens. The essence of on-the-go gaming lies in its convenience, and the “jump back in” feature aligns perfectly with this principle.

While the Xbox app may not yet offer a groundbreaking Quick Resume feature akin to Valve’s innovative quick access button, the “jump back in” functionality serves as a practical alternative. It presents a quick launch carousel showcasing the last nine games played, effectively reducing the need to navigate through multiple menus. This enhancement allows gamers to immerse themselves back into their favorite titles with minimal delay, whether they’re looking to continue their adventure or make a quick in-game purchase.

Microsoft elaborates on the feature’s functionality:

“The Jump back in feature, which enables players in Compact Mode to click on any game card and jump right back into gameplay from the game’s hub.”

With just a click on any game card, players can swiftly return to their game hub and resume their gaming session. Additionally, for those who prefer using a controller, a simple right-click or pressing the menu button provides direct access to gameplay from the context menu. This thoughtful design enhances user experience, making gaming on handheld devices not only more accessible but also more enjoyable.
