Polish developer People Can Fly has made the difficult decision to scale down its teams following the cancellation of two significant projects. In a candid post shared on LinkedIn, CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski announced that the studio would be halting development on Gemini and Bifrost. The decision comes after challenges with their publishing partner for Gemini, who failed to provide necessary terms for further development milestones, while Bifrost faced insurmountable funding issues.
Reflections on a Tough Decision
Wojciechowski expressed the emotional weight of this decision, stating, “Today we made a very difficult decision to suspend the development of project Gemini and project Bifrost – the relevant current reports have been released to the market.” He acknowledged the impact on the studio’s workforce, noting, “As a result, we have to significantly regroup as a studio and scale down our teams, which hurts the most.” His message conveyed a deep sense of regret and gratitude for the contributions of the team thus far.
This announcement adds to a series of challenges faced by People Can Fly in recent years. In 2022, the company experienced a setback when Take-Two Interactive terminated its publishing deal. Moreover, the studio had to navigate two rounds of layoffs throughout 2024, compounding the difficulties in an already tumultuous period.
Despite these setbacks, there is a glimmer of hope on the horizon. At the beginning of 2025, People Can Fly revealed an exciting collaboration with The Coalition on the highly anticipated Gears of War: E-Day, signaling a potential turnaround for the studio as it seeks to regain its footing in the competitive gaming landscape.
