Citron Releases Major Update with Version 0.7
Switch emulator Citron has just unveiled its latest version, 0.7, marking its first update in over six months. Lead developer Zephyron describes this release as a “complete ground-up rewrite,” introducing significant changes and improvements to the emulator.
One of the standout features of this update is the revamped Vulkan rendering pipeline, along with a complete rewrite of various core emulation components. While these changes are expected to enhance performance, they may also bring about new bugs and crashes. The Citron team has been actively recruiting beta testers to address any issues that may arise.
In addition to the Vulkan renderer overhaul, version 0.7 also includes early support for FSR 2, an open-source upscaling technology. However, developers caution that this feature is still in its experimental stages and may result in crashes, visual anomalies, and compatibility issues with certain games.
Despite these potential challenges, Citron v0.7 now boasts compatibility with firmware 20.4.0, surpassing the capabilities of other emulators like Eden, which currently supports firmware 19.0.1. This update marks a significant milestone for Citron, following its last major release in March.
As Citron continues to make strides in Switch emulation, users are encouraged to explore the full patch notes and download the latest version from the official website. Stay tuned for more updates and enhancements from the Citron development team.
