Ships have long captured the imagination, but flying ships elevate that allure to new heights. In the voxel-based sandbox survival RPG, Everwind, players take on the role of captain aboard a unique flying island-ship, embarking on adventures in a vibrant world brimming with possibilities. As the game prepares for its Steam Early Access launch today, developer Enjoy Studio and publisher Bohemia Interactive have unveiled an ambitious roadmap for 2026, albeit with flexible timelines that hint at thoughtful development.
Exploration and Adventure Await
For many, the thrill of airborne exploration began with iconic moments in gaming, such as boarding Cid’s airship in Final Fantasy 7. This fascination with airborne vessels finds a new expression in Everwind, which embraces a medieval fantasy aesthetic while allowing players to construct their own flying island-ships. These vessels serve as mobile bases, offering opportunities for customization and upgrades as players progress through the game.
Unlike traditional voxel games that focus on terrestrial exploration, Everwind transports players to expansive floating archipelagos, teeming with a diverse array of organic, mechanical, and fantastical creatures lurking within its many dungeons. The game evokes a sense of adventure reminiscent of the beloved Skypeia arc from the iconic One Piece manga, setting high expectations for its immersive world.
Everwind officially launches into Steam Early Access today, March 17. The standard edition is available for .99, while the Capybara Edition, featuring an array of cosmetic enhancements, can be purchased for .99.
Multiplayer and Future Updates
Currently, Everwind supports solo gameplay as well as cooperative multiplayer for up to four players. While this is a solid start, many players are eager for the addition of dedicated servers to enhance the multiplayer experience. The roadmap hints at this feature, though specific timelines remain to be determined. Other planned updates include significant system enhancements, a narrative expansion, and the introduction of a hardcore mode.
The absence of fixed update schedules is grounded in a commitment to player feedback. Enjoy Studio emphasizes that the order of updates will be shaped by community input, encouraging players to voice their preferences for features that require additional attention.
The journey to Early Access follows a highly successful Kickstarter campaign last year, where Everwind achieved full funding within just two weeks. The excitement surrounding the game has only grown since then, and as it enters this new phase of development, anticipation continues to build for how Enjoy Studio will refine and expand this captivating airborne adventure.
